Dear Kabir "Kabeezy" Singh,
I attended Berkeley Bollywood and was very impressed with how well
it was put together. However, to be blunt, I did not enjoy you as a
host. Many of your jokes were borderline - or way past the border -
racist, leaving me, my Indian, and my Asian friends very offended. You
said that as an Indian you would rather be called Asian as opposed to
Middle Eastern, implying that you doesn't want to be associated with
Middle Easterners. You later talked about how all the "white kids"
have a handshake where they bump fists and "explode" their hands - but
you can't do that because you?re "brown" and can't go around blowing
things up. This is offensive. After the Berkeley Ishaara performance,
you implied that the female lead was cast because of her Caucasian
race, completely disregarding her immense talent. Your comment about
Indians working at Fry's offended for two reason: firstly, saying that
"white guys" assume you work there because you are Indian reinforced
your consistent theme of white ignorance, and secondly, the entire
joke placed a group of people in seemingly inferior work category.
Your jokes about the lack of Indian athletes were offensive on
multiple levels. Your claim that your friends brag about athletes
within their respective races (i.e. African Americans talk about Kobe,
white people talk about Steve Nash etc.) insinuates universal race
based allegiance. Then your Spelling Bee bit favored the athletic
accomplishments of certain racial groups over the academic
accomplishments of other groups. By placing academics, singling out
Indians, below athletes, you not only discounted the achievements of
the Indian population and furthered the stereotype of incompetency,
but also attributed athletic and academic ability to race. The lack of
Indian athletes in this country should not imply inferiority. This
Academics vs. Athletes comparison was not just offensive on a racial
level, but also affected anyone who has ever felt inferior for having
ability that is brain as opposed to brawn. Your racist and
discriminatory jokes detracted from an otherwise great night, and I
hope that next time you visit Berkeley you remember that this is a
tolerant and accepting community and act accordingly. Thank you.
Sincerely,
xxxxxxxxx

I support you Kabir. Persist. Excellent post, its amazing how somebody without passing college has the vernacular, logic, and grammer that beats most college grad students. You didn't do bad at school because you were dumb, its because you're too creative to have somebody sit you down and try to fine tune your views on the world. Thats a gift my friend. A gift that very few have. I never did homework growing up because I had too much to learn. Mark Twain said "I never let schooling interfere with my education". As John Nash puts it: "Classes will dull your mind, destroy the potential for authentic creativity."

Keep taking risks and persist..

To win without risk is to triumph without glory.
-Pierre Corneille

Infinitely,
Chris Brown

That Lila girl is an idiot. How can she say all these things about Kabeezy being racist and how inappropriate jokes like that are, but then laugh about the african american jokes?? What a fuckin hypocrite! As long as you aren't making fun of her, or her race it must be OK!!! What a smart girl!! Also, I think if people want to say how rude and inappropriate and racist you are, they might want to have someone double check their grammar and spelling; if you are going to accuse someone, you might as well sound educated doing it. What a moron! Kabeezy you are one of the funniest guys around so keep doing what you're doing!

Did some of the premises depend on stereotypes? Sure. Are some of the jokes explorations of stereotypes and racism and not necessarily deconstructing. Of course. This person was uncomfortable with anything less than a complete refutation of any racial stereotypes. But as Aundre commented on the Yahoo group, that was not your role that night. Your job was to keep the energy going, the laughs coming and move the evening along. If it was a seminar on South Asian race identity and relations, then she'd have a point. Just viewed the Roosters set and it's not anything any minority comedian (self included) doesn't do by examining our experiences in the world through the filter of race and identity.

Oh, and more dick jokes... c'mon, are you serious about comedy or not?

"act accordingly"? That's demeaning and insulting.
But the fact that she thought the Oakland joke was funny, but not the Fry's joke, makes her look more like the racist. Seriously.
K - you're doing great. stay true to yourself and don't let people with their own racial issues or hangups, shake your confidence.
I saw your act - nothing but funny. Good luck!
